Yonsenia White, LPC, ATR, CMCC is a Masters level Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Military Counselor with a secondary specialty as a Registered Art Therapist. Yonsenia has also been both an award-winning professional artist and tenured professor of studio art for over twenty years.

Yonsenia has ten years of clinical experience working with clients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds with a range of diagnoses in various military and civilian inpatient, outpatient, community-based and private practice clinical settings as an art therapist, counselor and DoD/Defense Health Agency contractor. She is personally familiar with military culture and thoroughly enjoys working with service members because of her own military upbringing as a child of a Vietnam era Army veteran.

Yonsenia’s background as an educator also informs her holistic, multifaceted counseling approach. She utilizes psychoeducation to help clients better understand the “why” behind their mental health challenges and gives clients various types of homework assignments which may include journaling, watching videos, reading articles or creating artwork to improve insight and awareness, further explore the nature of their mental health condition, learn healthier coping skills and establish a routine self-care practice for overall long-term success. Furthermore, Yonsenia believes the therapeutic process is a two-way street, involving sincere investment from both therapist as well as the client.

Clinical approaches: Trauma-focused, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Brief, Solution-focused, Strengths based and Client-centered Therapy, Art Psychotherapy & Psychoeducation.

Education: Master of Science, Art Therapy & Counseling, Eastern Virginia Medical School; Master of Fine Art, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University
